Welcome to Making it Emma
I’m a big believer that home doesn’t have to be perfect to feel good.
Because real life isn’t perfect.
I’m a busy mom and wife, balancing work, homemaking, family life, and everything that seems to fill the hours in between. Some days the house is tidy, dinner is planned, and everything feels under control. Other days, the laundry is piling up, the dishes are waiting, and I’m just trying to make it through the day.
And honestly? I think that’s okay.
Creating a Home That Feels Good
I created Making it Emma as a place to share the things I’m learning about creating a home and life that feels good—without the pressure to do everything perfectly.
When you’re balancing work, family, and a home, there isn’t always time for elaborate routines, perfectly organized spaces, or hours spent making everything look just right.
I’m much more interested in finding simple things that actually work in real life.
Simple homemaking routines that make busy days easier.
Small changes that make a space feel calmer.
DIY projects that make our home more functional and more us.
Easy ways to make home feel cozy and welcoming.
And little moments that make an ordinary day feel special.
Homemaking in Real Life
I love the idea of homemaking, but I also know that homemaking looks different when you’re working, raising a family, and trying to keep up with everything else life brings.
For me, homemaking isn’t about having a spotless house or checking every task off a list.
It’s about creating a home that feels good to come back to.
It’s making our space comfortable and functional.
It’s finding routines that make everyday life a little easier.
It’s preparing a meal when we can—and ordering takeout when we can’t.
It’s making time to enjoy our home instead of constantly feeling like we need to be working on it.
Most importantly, it’s about finding a balance that works for our real life.
Making Home Feel Like Home
I believe a beautiful home doesn’t have to be expensive, perfectly decorated, or completely finished.
It just needs to feel like you.
Sometimes that means tackling a DIY project or updating a room. Sometimes it’s simply clearing the kitchen counters, putting fresh sheets on the bed, or lighting a candle at the end of a long day.
The little things matter.
And they don’t have to be complicated.

You Don’t Have to Do It All
I’m learning that creating a calm home isn’t about doing more.
Sometimes, it’s about doing less—but doing what matters.
It’s choosing the routine that saves you time instead of the one that looks impressive.
It’s creating a home that works for your family instead of trying to keep up with someone else’s version of perfect.
It’s letting the laundry wait.
It’s making the easy dinner.
It’s enjoying the clean room before it gets messy again.
